Former Prime Minister Dr.Pierre Damien Habumuremyi could be answerable to more charges brought against him by different accusers.
This was noted by the Prosecutor General Aimable Havugiyaremye during a press conference organised by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) and the National Public Prosecution Authority, NPPA.
The former prime minister was alleged to have issued bouncy chaques worth Rwf 100 million but now additional accusations say in stead issued same cheques equivalent to Rwf200m.
The prosecutor general said the accused could not be released from prison on bail as different people accused him of issuing the bouncy cheques.
“Normally by law, someone has a right to bail but in his case we continued to receive more complaints of people he owed money. Some of them feared to accuse him when he was a Prime Minister.”
An unidentified person complained that he was given a bouncy cheque of Rwf70m and a few more people made the same accusations.
The Prosecutor General said advise to the former minister to sell some of his properties and pay the debt were also impossible.
