Former Prime Minister arrested for 30 days

Former Prime Minister Dr.Pierre Habumuremyi is expected to spend a month in prison following a verdict passed by Gasabo intermediary court.

The court said the 30 days will allow investigations about charges of issuing a false cheque and misconduct continue.

The former minister rebuts all charges according the July 16 2020 hearing.

He requested the court to release him saying that charge brought against him by his employees are not correct.

Employees at his Christian University which was also temporarily closed accuse him of failing to pay their salaries.

The accusations also include a Rwf15.5m tender in which he requested the eligible to pay a refundable Rwf10m and later could not refund it after the 20 computers were received by his university.

He was expect to appear in court today but did not over unknown reasons.

Dr. Habumuremyi was arrested 3 July 2020.
