Ms Mohamed’s candidature was submitted to the WTO on July 7 by the Kenyan government.
A Brazilian, Robert Azevêdo, currently holding the job expects to be stepping down later this year.
Candidates will meet with the General Council to make pitches and answer questionnaires.
Ms Mohamed, was a Foreign minister.
In 2013 he lost the same job to Mr Azevedo on a consensus decision made by member states.
The WTO director-general is appointed through consensus decisions.
The decision about her candidature and others will be disclosed on August 31.

Ms Mohamed wanta to be WTO director-general due to her experience with its key decision making organs.
She was the Chairperson of the General Council in 2005, which is the highest-level decision making organ of the WTO.
She helped the WTO adopt the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (Trips), which is an international pact that helps poorer nations use technology from richer countries to make useful items like generic drugs, by avoiding harm to intellectual property owners.
She was head of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body and Trade Policy Review Body.
She was vocal in the WTO “strategic leadership and effective communication” arguing the organization to use her strategy which expected would make the WTO more responsive to concerns in international trade.
