Officials from Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) and aids healthcare foundation AHF Rwanda said that there will not be new infection of HIV/AIDS in Rwanda with availability of condoms to urban dwellers.

This was communicated on February 16, 2018 while launching a new condom kiosk.

Huye residents say that free condoms provided in Kiosks are going to help in family planning and prevention of sexually transmitted illnesses.

Rachel Kanakuze, a 22 years old from Tumba sector in Huye district said that the condoms will help them as before it was difficult to find them whenever.

We are very happy for this initiative as we could not access to condoms in our village side so easily whenever we need them. This kiosk will help whoever needs to make sex and for sure it will help us to protect from HIV/AIDS,” said Kanakuze.

Aime Ernest Nyirinkindi, an official from RBC said the initiative is in line with the targets of the ministry of health through Rwanda Biomedical Center to give free condoms to the citizens countrywide and to equip them with adequate knowledge on use.

The ministry of health started distributing condoms in different health centers and hospitals, in partnership with AHF-Rwanda.

We launched condom kiosks in areas where condoms are much more needed we still have a big number of youth accounting to 47 percent of youth living with HIV/AIDS and we want to reduce that,” Nyirinkindi said.

AHF RWANDA has recently opened a nother condom kiosk in Rubavu district. The initiative started in Kigali in Rwezamenyo, Remera and Gikondo and will be a continuous effort even in other districts following the funds availability according to Dr.Brenda Asiimwe Kateera, AHF-Rwanda country manager.

The new kiosk has been operating in Huye since three months ago and served over 11,000 condoms among the 12,000 in store.

We still have HIV/AIDS; we will continue to rise up and continue the momentum in HIV prevention and mobilize people on its effective use,” said Kateera.
